Beginning of Fantasy Fell…

Sometimes in life, you’ve just got to take the plunge and so here we are swimming, or paddling or maybe in reality we are only dipping our toe in the water! Here is the first blog piece for our new company Fantasy Fell Ltd. For years, we’ve scoured the shelves for gifts with ponies, not quite finding the perfect presents for our pony friends and family and boldly said, let’s do something ourselves.…… That would have been well over five years ago, life and commitments mean that you put things on the back burner, but the idea has always been in the back of our minds. Then one thing leads to another, a visit to the Harrogate Gift Fair two years ago, spurred on our enthusiasm, and now here we are in 2016 about to launch our Fantasy Fell Collections at the show in July 2016.

Why Fantasy Fell? Well she’s not a fantasy, she’s real, a jet black, hairy, very lovable and beautiful fell pony, well we think so anyway. If there’s trouble you can bet that she is in the thick of it, and because she’s such a personality, her name became the natural choice and it’s stuck. She’s developed into the central character for a series of stories that we hope to one day share with you, which includes one about how she came to be eating flowers and have them in her mane!

We were born and bred in Cumbria and our family have bred Fell Ponies for many generations. We are passionate about our county and our ponies and we hope through our china and giftware range we’ve managed to create something for you that is bright, contemporary and a bit different to enjoy and collect. We’ve worked with local Cumbrian designers who are always inspirational and so supportive and they’ve been with us through thick and thin through this and we are so lucky to work with them. We have managed to ensure that nearly all our products are manufactured in the UK, which includes fine bone china which is traditionally made in Stoke on Trent. We’ve learnt a lot in the process, but have so much more to do. We are hoping that the range will extend to other British native pony breeds, but we’ve had to start somewhere and for us that was naturally with Cumbria and Fell Ponies.

Once we’re established and found our feet, or our hooves, we hope to be able to get involved in various initiatives to help to highlight our British native pony breeds, many of whom are on the Rare Breeds Trust register, but we’ll ask you for your thoughts on this too. So countdown to Harrogate for our launch, if you are a retailer we hope to meet you there, so drop by and see us we are in Hall G on Stand G155. We hope our web shop, also designed and developed in Cumbria, is easy to navigate and buy from. Most of all though, we look forward to building up our Fantasy Fell community and hearing your stories of your ponies or just your adventures in Cumbria & the Lake District.
